          What Are Aluminum Foil Material Properties

          With the rapid development of the electronics industry, the market demand for aluminum foil is increasing, so the variety of aluminum foil on the market is becoming more and more abundant. For example, industrial H18 aluminum foil is often used as the battery aluminum foil, which acts as an important bridge for electron transmission in lithium batteries and plays a vital role in connecting internal and external circuits.

          O temper jumbo roll aluminum foil is often used in the packaging and storage of food, medicine, etc., and some special aluminum foils are also used in the manufacture of aerospace materials, coated cables, and mechanical appliances. As aluminum foil is more and more widely used, the requirements for mechanical properties such as elastic modulus, breaking strength and elongation of aluminum foil have also increased accordingly.

          The aluminum foil thickness is generally at the micron level, and the properties of aluminum foil produced by different processes are significantly different. There are many factors that affect the mechanical properties of aluminum foil, such as chemical composition, morphology and size distribution of the second phase compound, and texture.

          Take 1235 aluminum foil for example. The chosen 1235-H18 aluminum foil thickness is 5.9μm, 6.35μm , 7, 9 μm, 15.5 μm and 20μm, and the thickness of 1235-O aluminum foil is 6 μm , 6.5 μm and 7μm.

          1025 h18 aluminum foil is a kind of full hardness aluminum foil without annealing and with simple work hardening. H18 temper aluminum foil is widely used as current collector material for lithium batteries.

          O-state aluminum foil is a kind of aluminum foil after complete annealing. The so-called complete annealing means that the internal structure is recrystallized during annealing. Through complete annealing, the grains are refined, the structure is uniform, the residual stress is eliminated, the hardness is reduced, and it is easy to cut, so it is widely used in food and pharmaceutical packaging.

          The elastic modulus of the H18 state and O state aluminum foil materials is about 30GPa, which is only half of that of the aluminum block. In addition, the fracture strength of the H18-state aluminum foil material is significantly stronger than that of the aluminum block.

          However, the increase of the thickness of the aluminum foil does not affect the change of the fracture strength, and the fracture strength of the H18 state aluminum foil material is maintained at 150-160MPa, the fracture strength of O-state aluminum foil is maintained at about 70MPa. As the thickness increases, the elongation of the 1235 h18 aluminum foil increases significantly, showing good ductility, but it is still far less than that of the aluminum block.

          The yield strength of the H18 temper aluminum foil is between 110 and 130MPa, which is obviously greater than that of the aluminum block. and the yield strength of the O temper aluminum foil is 60MPa, which is similar to the block material.

          The mechanical properties of 1235 aluminum foil and aluminum block are completely different. Through the microscopic analysis of the fracture morphology of the 1235 aluminium foil, it can be found that the fracture form of the aluminum foil material is brittle fracture.
