Aluminum Foil for Cable

Cables are usually composed of conductors, insulation layers, shielding layers, and sheaths. Aluminum foil for cable is generally located outside the insulation layer as part of the shielding layer. It fits tightly to the surface of the insulation layer and is used in conjunction with other shielding materials (such as copper braided mesh, etc.) to form a complete shielding system.

The role of cable aluminum foil

Electromagnetic shielding: Aluminum foil has good electrical conductivity, which makes it an ideal material for electromagnetic shielding. When there is an electromagnetic field around the cable, the free electrons in the aluminum foil will move in a directional manner under the action of the electromagnetic field, forming an induced current and magnetic field opposite to the external electromagnetic field, thereby offsetting the interference of the external electromagnetic field on the internal signal of the cable. At the same time, shield cable with aluminum foil can also prevent the internal signal of the cable from radiating outward and avoid interference with other equipment.

Moisture-proof and waterproof: Aluminum foil itself has a certain density. When it is used in combination with other sheath materials of the cable, it can form an effective moisture-proof and waterproof barrier. It is difficult for moisture to penetrate the aluminum foil layer into the cable, thereby protecting the conductor and insulation layer of the cable from moisture erosion.

Mechanical protection: Aluminum foil has certain strength and toughness. When the cable is squeezed, bent or stretched by external force, the aluminum foil layer can play a certain buffering and supporting role, dispersing the damage of external force to the internal structure of the cable, and protecting the conductor and insulation layer from damage.

Applicable cable types

Communication cables: In the field of communications, whether it is telephone lines, network data lines (such as CAT5/6 network cables), or cable TV cables, efficient signal transmission is required.

Coaxial cables: Coaxial cables are often used to transmit high-frequency signals, such as radio frequency signals.

Control cables: In industrial automation control systems, control cables are responsible for transmitting various control signals.

Alloys of cable aluminum foil

Aluminum foil for cable is generally produced using specific aluminum alloy. Common alloys include 1145 grade light industrial pure aluminum, 1100 alloy and 8011 alloy. These alloys have good processing performance and comprehensive performance, and can meet the various requirements of cable aluminum foil during production and use.

After continuous casting and rolling, hot rolling, slitting and thorough annealing, the 1145 aluminum foil jumbo roll is divided into small rolls according to the length required by the user and supplied to the wire foil compounding plant.

Plastic film is covered on the surface of the aluminum foil, and it is cut into many small strips and coiled into coils for supply to the electric wire factory. Aluminum foils with different alloy compositions differ in strength, conductivity, corrosion resistance, etc.
